Chocolate Chip Sourdough Scones are crazy delicious and satisfying! These whole grain oil-free vegan scones are ready in just 15 minutes. These scones have a sneaky secret ingredient that makes them oil-free egg-free and fluffy. Yum! 😋
If you enjoyed my Fat-Free Sourdough Biscuits recipe, this is similar but slightly sweet and great for adding in some mini chocolate chips for an extra special treat. I use Enjoy Life chips since they are vegan, allergy-friendly and are only chocolate, no add-ins or preservatives.
Instead of chocolate chips you could also use fresh or frozen berries, walnuts, pecans, oats, or other add-ins. I’d love to hear from you in a comment below, what is your favorite flavor for scones? I love to add a 1 tsp of matcha (green tea powder) to this recipe and then these are chocolate chip matcha scones. Sometimes I put cacao powder instead for double chocolatey flavor. I have also added some raw old fashioned oats or chopped walnuts, which add a crunchy nutty flavor.
Want to make these without a sourdough starter? Then just use 1 cup of flour and omit the starter, you may need an extra tablespoon of oat milk if your dough looks dry. If you don’t have oat milk, fee free to use my Homemade Cashew Milk which doesn’t require any straining!
Since we can’t travel this year due to the pandemic, this recipe reminded me of all the scones we tried in the UK and Ireland. My husband said they were even better! And of course I had to add a healthy twist to feel even better about serving them to my family. Since this recipe is so quick to make, this will be a great recipe for last-minute guests when we can have people stop by again. 🙂

What is grain free flour? What brand do you use? Are these gluten free?
